Cannes 2010 marks a historic achievement for Filmaka as our first film SWINGING WITH THE FINKELS will be screened twice for potential distributors. FINKELS, based on a short film submitted to our FX Comedy Competition, is written and directed by award-winning (Ford Mustang Stories) Filmaka member Jonathan Newman and produced by Filmaka co-founder Deepak Nayar (BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM). The romantic comedy stars Martin Freeman (UK’s THE OFFICE), Mandy Moore, Jonathan Silverman, Melissa George and comedy legend Jerry Stiller.
Immediately after FINKELS, Jonathan and Deepak reteemed on the just-wrapped feature FOSTER, also based on one of Jonathan’s short films (pre-Filmaka). FOSTER has an amazing cast: Emmy-award winner Toni Collette (THE UNITED STATES OF TARA), Ioan Grufudd (AMAZING GRACE, FANTASTIC FOUR), Richard E. Grant (GOSFORD PARK) and Oscar-winner Hayley Mills.
Both FINKELS and FOSTERS are repped by Simon Crowe and SC Films International. For Simon’s contact info and everything you need to know about FINKELS, check out SwingingWithTheFinkels.com
Congratulations, Jonathan! We are very proud of you!

Leading digital agency Digitas invited Filmaka Founder Deepak Nayar to participate on a panel at the prestigious Cannes Lions June 26. Also on the panel were Lucas Cruikshank, also known as YouTube’s Fred , actress and digital content producer Justine Bateman, and Webby and Streamy Award winning blogger Zadi Diaz. Digitas’ Chief Creative Officer Mark Beeching hosted the session, entitled “The Film Preditors II: A Dating Game” in which panelists “competed” for the attention of Subway’s Jeff Larson. From all accounts, Deepak did a fantastic job and his kids were thrilled to get this this photo of their dad with the one and only Fred. Thanks to Digitas for the invitation.
Rodrigo Lopez Aldana and Luis Bernal Salazar with The Guild’s Felicia Day
Last week, filmmakers Luis Bernal Salazar and Rodrigo Lopez Aldana travelled from Mexico City to Los Angeles to attend the 1st Annual Streamy Creative Arts and Awards Ceremonies. Their dramatic Filmaka web series THE TEN COMMANDMENTS OF LA VIDA LOCA received a nomination for BEST ARTISTIC CONCEPT. At the Streamys, Luis and Rodrigo walked the Red Carpet, conducted press interviews, and mingled with web celeb Felicia Day, who took home Streamys for Best Actress in a Comedy and Best Comedy (The Guild).
